ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® is a common way in the United States and Canada for organizations to share energy, waste, and water consumption with 3rd parties. Creating and maintaining your ENERGY STAR portfolio is central to most benchmarking programs and is integral to the Maalka Performance Targets program.
Maalka can import your properties and groups from ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager as well as from analytic data the tool provides. There are two different types of files that can be imported from ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager:
The fastest and most straightforward way to retrieve your data from Portfolio Manager is to download your entire portfolio directly from the MyPortfolio tab. If you are looking to export specific data, or if your file exceeds 50,000 rows, you will need to select the custom download option.
1. Go to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager at https://portfoliomanager.energystar.gov/pm/home and log in. Here you will see a screen with menu items and any buildings in your portfolio.
2. Click "Download your entire portfolio to Excel" to export all data associated with your portfolio.
3. Your file will automatically download to your computer or device.
You may want to filter the information that will be exported from ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager for use in Maalka. This may be because your complete file has exceeded 50,000 lines, you want to include only specific buildings, or there are metrics you wish to exclude. This section will guide you through creating a custom export that is compatible with the Maalka Performance Targets program.
1. Go to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager at https://portfoliomanager.energystar.gov/pm/home and log in. Here you will see a screen with menu items and any buildings in your portfolio.
2. Click "custom download" to filter the data associated with your portfolio export.
3. Select the properties that will be exported. In most cases, you will select all buildings, but since there is a limit of 50,000 rows in the Excel export file, it may be necessary for large portfolios to break up the export file into multiple files.
4. Select the data to be exported. You will need to select the following options at minimum:
4. Click Submit and your file will be downloaded to your computer or device.
Maalka provides bulk import capability to bring ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager properties into Maalka.
1. Now that you’ve downloaded the Excel files, navigate to the Maalka Dashboard and go into your Client to upload your export.
2. Import the file into Maalka using the Import Data item of the Black Navigation bar Gear dropdown.
3. Select file type ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® Export
4. In the Programs dropdown, select your Performance Targets program.
5. Click Select File and choose your .xlsx file export.
6. Upon successful completion, you will receive a notification at the top of your screen. You will also see your imported sites and data in the Analytics tab in Maalka.
Weather-normalized data comes into Maalka through the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Reports, and it may be necessary to generate these reports on top of your Portfolio Manager exports. These reports are created through the reporting tab of the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager online portal. To generate a Performance Targets report, run the following three reports
Download these three reports for use in Maalka:
1. Go to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Reports. Login and you should find the three reports listed under My Reports and Templates.
2. There are a few extra steps to get your files ready for download. First, for each of the reports, select "Edit this Template" in the "I want to..." dropdown.
3. Next you will need to identify which properties you want to include in the report. You can update other information if you wish, but you cannot generate your report unless you select one or more properties.
4. Select the properties you want to include in your report, or select all by clicking the checkbox in the table header. Click Apply Selection to save your property selections (you may need to scroll down the modal to use this button).
5. Click Save Template.
6. Now, choose Generate Report in the "I want to..." dropdown. This will prepare your report for download.
7. After a few minutes, your report will be ready and a green Generated icon will appear on the file row. Now you can download the report, so choose Download Current Report in Excel in the "I want to..." dropdown.
8. Your report will download to your computer or device. Remember, you will need to repeat these steps for each of the reports linked at the top of this section.
You can import your ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager reports into Maalka the same way you would import your ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager exports.
1. Navigate back to your Client in Maalka, and click on the Import Data item in the Black Navigation bar Gear dropdown.
2. In the File Type dropdown, upload as an ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Report.
2. Click Select File and choose one of your generated reports from the ENERGY STAR Porfolio Manager Reports section.
4. Look for a notification that your file was uploaded correctly, and then repeat steps 1 - 3 for each of your three report files.
5. Now you will need to identify the data source in your program. Go to the Performance Targets program, and Click on the Edit Reports tab.
6. In Maalka, you may use either your historical resource usage, or the imported ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® Custom Report data to drive your Performance Targets Program. Selecting “ESPM Weather Normalized Site" will use the resource usage data in your portfolio as the source of the Performance Targets Program.
7. Now you should be ready to use the Maalka Performance Targets program! You can edit your report images and text, set new baselines, or check out your reports in the Performance Report tab.
